Speaking of manga, I'd recommend picking up 20th Century Boys, it's the new series by Naoki Urasawa.
Oh yeah, Ito is pretty great.
I tell you another manga that I think you'd love: Drifting Classroom. Totally insane stuff. Quite retro, by turns hilarious and disturbing.
Two manga recommendations! (Mr Salmond you've mentioned this one to me before. Afroguy thanks for the tip) I've still got about 900 volumes of Monster to read though and I can't remember what happened in the first six. Got to get back to that before throwing myself too heavily into more epics. Doh!
